As a World Vision supporter, you are invited to
a special One Just World forum discussion on Corporate Social Responsibility and the World's Poor.
- 80% of the world's population lives below the poverty line and almost 50% - over 3 billion people - live on less than $2.50 a day.
- 9 million children under 5 die each year from poverty-related causes (24,000 every day).
- Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.
Currently, about 3.7 billion or 60% of the world's population is too poor to participate in the market economy. Yet if they were, imagine the massive leap forward for both humanity and the global economy.
What are the economic ramifications poverty? How does the corporate sector see the problem?
Is it just about raising income, or does alleviating poverty involve developing social cohesion as well? |
